Teachers deserve enormous respect for helping to educate our young citizens. Many teachers are overworked with large class sizes and underpaid. But they continue to show up and help our communities grow and thrive. That’s why we’re happy to report that many auto insurance companies offer discounts and special benefits to teachers and other educators.
These discounts are usually offered through “Affinity” programs, which means that the insurance company has made special arrangements with affiliated groups, like the National Education Association (NEA). We’ve done the research and created this list for you.
If you are a teacher, you could save big on car insurance with the following companies!
Liberty Mutual
If your car is vandalized while on school property or during a school-related event, Liberty Mutual offers a $0 deductible. You’ll also have a $0 deductible (or $100 for PA residents) if you’re in an accident while driving your vehicle for school purposes. The company even provides up to $2,500 per occurrence if your teaching materials or property are stolen or damaged. A Liberty Mutual insurance policy has the backing of one of the country’s largest insurers behind it. So you can count on them if you have a claim.
Liberty Mutual’s special Teachers’ Auto Insurance coverage options are available at no extra cost to its customers. They’re not available in all states, so be sure to ask your licensed sales agent which discounts and services you can get. Plymouth Rock Assurance
Plymouth Rock Assurance, part of the Palisades Insurance group in New Jersey, topped our list of best car insurance companies in the state. So if you’re a New Jerseyean teacher, you’ll be happy to learn that Plymouth’s Teachers Insurance Plan offers special rates and coverage to educators. For incidents that happen on school grounds, Plymouth Rock waives your comprehensive and collision deductibles. It also gives you up to $1,000 for any stolen or damaged school property.

Farmers Insurance
Farmers Insurance is often thought of as a community-based program. They connect with their members and offer individualized support with their insurance rates. Farmers also offers affinity discounts for teachers who are part of a recognized group. Availability of discounts from Farmers vary by state, but you can ask an independent agent to find out if you can take advantage of the offer.
We reviewed Farmers auto insurance. So be sure to check out all the details we found about this company.
California Casualty
While only available in select states, California Casualty jumps to the top of our mind when we think about insurance for educators. They serve groups they call “heroes”, which includes teachers, medical professionals, fire fighters, police, and others. If you buy an auto policy from them, you can also look at other insurance products like home, motorcycle, and more. Rates are extremely low, and California Casualty offers different groups special benefits you won’t find anywhere else.
Despite its name, California Casualty offers auto insurance to drivers in most states (except AK, HI, MA, MI, NY, and WI) and Washington, D.C. The company says it “protects American heroes,” by which it means coverage exclusively for people who work in education, law enforcement, nursing, and firefighting.
In a blog post, California Casualty says that auto insurance for teachers should include discounts, rate guarantees, and custom coverage and payment plans. This means extra coverage for lost school supplies and the ability to skip payments in the summer.
GEICO
GEICO, the nation’s second-largest auto insurance provider, offers “Educational Organization Membership Discounts” if you are affiliated with a group in its program. Check out the list to see if an organization you’re a part of is included, then read more about GEICO auto insurance in our review.
Esurance
We couldn’t find many specifics about educator discounts from Esurance, an Allstate company. But we did find a press release from 2004 announcing its “Auto Insurance Discount for Certified Educators, Engineers, & Scientists.” We recommend you check out our Esurance auto insurance review, and then ask your independent agent about any available teacher discounts.
If you’re interested in getting a quote, you can go online and start by entering your zip code. Then answer a few questions, and you can see what rates to expect on an auto insurance policy.
How Many Quotes Should You Get for Insurance Coverage?
We’ve done the work to find which auto insurance companies say they provide discounts to educators, but that doesn’t mean this list is all inclusive. If you’re a teacher looking for car insurance, ask your independent agent if there are any discounts they know about. Plus, most companies will offer “multi-line” discounts that can combine educator discounts with other discounts.
You can run a quote by entering your zip code in our calculator. You can also talk to an independent insurance agent to get quotes from companies and see what makes sense for you. The company you’re with right now many offer additional discounts you don’t know about yet. You just have to ask.
